Navigating the Shift

By Chris Smith

One of the most underdiscussed challenges we face across every stage of life is the ongoing search for real community. Whether you are stepping out of college into the workforce, moving to a new area, or balancing the relentless pace of raising a family, finding your place and your people can feel surprisingly daunting.

As life shifts, built-in social circles naturally fade. We suddenly find ourselves searching for a parish home, looking for ways to serve, or simply trying to form faithful friendships amid busy schedules. In those quiet transition seasons, it is easy to feel isolated.

Yet, as the Body of Christ, we were never meant to walk through life’s trials and triumphs alone. Prioritizing authentic fellowship remains essential for spiritual maturity and everyday encouragement, and thanks be to God we have those opportunities here at St. Francis.

Building meaningful relationships takes patience and courage, but small steps can open big doors:

  • Stay for Coffee & Donuts
Stick around after Sunday Mass to say hello to someone new or reconnect with familiar faces.
  • Get Involved in a Ministry
Joining a liturgical ministry, service committee, or parish study group is one of the fastest ways to find like-minded friends.
  • Spend Time in Adoration
Sit before the Blessed Sacrament and bring your desire for community to prayer; Lord often places the right people in our path when we ask.
  • Host or Reach Out
Be bold in extending the first invitation, whether for coffee after morning Mass or a simple gathering at home.

When you actively seek connection within the parish, you will find a home.
